XXV (Fot. Rossini)
Image_description_English :
112. On the W wall of the peristyle ( 16) (again according to the location of the paintings in the peristyle reported by Overbeck i'b P- 311) was the painting with the child Dionysus in the arms of Silenus, depicted as he tries to grasp the bunch of grapes (H, 377; Fiorelli PAH, II, p. 234: “a child Bacchus supported by a Silenus, and who extends his hands to a bunch of grapes, which is offered to him by a Nymph”). As far as can be judged from the 19th-century engraving, the scheme is the same as the group on the left in the picture from Herculaneum (MNN, inv. 9270: H, 376) which represents Hermes delivering the little Dionysus to Silenus and the Nymphs, from MB X. Plate XXV (Photo. Rossini)
